31st January 2008, Meal at The Mill Restaurant, Greenville, Kilmacow, County Kilkenny.     Top of page

Sixty marfan supporters shared a meal at The Mill. Proprietor, Chef, Kieran Laffan provided a splendid meal on the night. Kieran Mc Grath welcomed everybody and thanked everybody’s contribution no matter how small. Dr Jonathan Mc Guinness, Mater Hospital, Dublin and Dr John Byrne, Waterford Regional Hospital, who are both involved in Marfan research in Ireland expressed their appreciation for the financial support they receive for research. They are optimistic for the future of marfan research. They hope to publish a paper on their current research in the coming months. They said the future looked bright and encouraged all present.

The total amount raised was €988. Thanks to the generosity of staff and customers.



May 2008 Ridley’s Great Baddow Charity Races:    Top of page

Sr Philomena Purcell participated on behalf of Marfan Syndrome Research for the fourth time. Philomena’s registered race number was the historic 1066 and finished the race in record time. Total amount raised was €1,074. Well done, Philomena!

The total amount raised in this bucket collection was €302. Sincere thanks to all.



June 2008 Mick and Maxine Creed Charity Event:    Top of page

Mick and Maxine Creed participated in fundraising Charity event in Tully, County Clare and raised €200 for Marfan research. Sincere thanks to Mick and Maxine for their faithful support.



2nd June 2008, Women’s Mini Marathon:    Top of page

Michael and Geraldine participated on behalf of our Charity. Wendy Rossiter and family from County Dublin, joined us on the walk. The day was scorching but we paced ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Between us we raised €1,400 on the event. Sincere thanks to all our generous sponsors.



29th June 2008 Kilimanjaro Challenge    Top of page

September 2008, Fundraising Skydive:     Top of page

Thomas Doyle, Dangan, Kilmacow, County Kilkenny successfully completed a sponsored daring skydive on behalf of our Charity. Thomas raised a total of €505. We are extremely grateful to Thomas and all the Doyle family who are loyal supporters of marfan research.



13th September 2008, Annual Pony and Trap Drive:     Top of page

The Pony and Trap Drive was an enormous success. The drivers and their passengers were dressed in American Western style (based on the musical Calamity Jane). It was a glorious sunny day and the event raised a total of €6,500 for marfan research. A big thanks to all participants.



21st October 2008, Annual Table Quiz:     Top of page

The annual table quiz took place at The Showboat, Waterford. We had a most enjoyable and successful night and raised a total of €670.



19th to 24th December 2008, Super Value, Morgan St, Waterford:     Top of page

This event was enjoyable and successful. The customers were extremely generous in these difficult times. We really appreciate the support we receive from the public. A total of €11,265 was raised.
